Age of Conan PvP Guide

- First and foremost: Make friends. Group often and if you're good, and not rude, people will be more likely to want to group with you again. If you already have friends you play with, group with them as much as possible when not doing the solo story lines.

- Stay alert. If you do decide to travel alone in Free-forall PvP zones, be aware of your surroundings. If you see players, check their levels and numbers. If you're not
already engaged with a mob then hiding can be your friend, no matter what class you are.

- Pick your fights. Size up each class, know their strengths and weaknesses, and learn what works best for each encounter.

- Use your potions. Potions in Age of Conan don't work like in most other games, they're not instant. So, if you think it's going to be a tough fight, pop your potion early. If you take it right before you start taking damage, it will be ticking throughout the fight, and could mean the difference between living and getting your head cut off.

- Chose your skills wisely. Not all PVE skills will help keep you alive! Chose the skills that will add to your survivability. The most important being CC or (Crowd Control) abilities i.e. stuns and fears. Also don’t forget about skills that can help you defend against crowd control.

- Live to fight another day! If you get caught off guard or out numbered, there is no shame in making an early escape to come back better prepared. Endurance is a good skill to train for this as it allows you to sprint for a longer period of time while holding the shift key. Watch out for your endurance though, as letting it drop to nothing will make you exhausted.

- Watch out for ambushes. Certain areas are more well traveled than others, and as the game progresses we will more than likely see high level "gankers". No area will be completely safe, but some areas of PvP zones will surely be safer than others. Watch out for “gankers” at spawn pointss. If all else fails and you're frustrated with being killed over and over, there are other options for leveling. Solo play and non-PvP zones come to mind.

- Have fun. You will be killed, don't take it out on other players. Trash talking has its own place in PvP servers and it will happen, it's expected to happen. Just watch out for who you trash talk, as they may have more friends than you! Being a KOS target can be fun, but it generally is not. Remember, this is a just a game and is not worth getting stressed over.

- Spawn Camping. Yes it is lame, yes it sucks to die before you even load in. Yes it sucks that it can happen over and over. Unless and until something is done about it, spawn camping is going to happen. Either do your best to run away and hide or just log out for awhile.

- Switch instances. I don't mean go to another zone. In the upper left corner of your mini map is a down arrow. Click on that and select instance. If you're getting ganked repeatedly, or you can't find a way to do a quest without running into other players, and are thus forced to PvP, try another instance, there may not be people doing that quest in a different instance.

Assassin Class Guides

The much anticipated class guide section complete with PVP and PVE builds for each class This time we will look at the Assassin.

Assassins are the most lethal killers in Hyboria. Those aspiring to the top of this profession face the most deadly regime of training, discipline, and study, but the ones that survive are executioners supreme.

No other class can deliver blows as deadly as an assassin. Their arsenal of lethal combos is complemented by their ability to slip past enemies unseen. Assassins can dual wield daggers with lightning speed and can modify their attacks against specific targets, such as unholy attacks against heavily armored foes, or poison attacks versus mana users. Few can stand against an assassin in combat.

Archetype: Rogue
Permitted Races: Aquilonian, Stygian
Weapons: Daggers, crossbows, and dual-wielding
Armor: Cloth armor and silk armor

Assassin
I can't find any solid posts or info on assassin abilities, and hybes is very incomplete. If anyone has anything, I'd be glad to post it.

Why would I play this class?

  1. High single target DPS (Sneak attack goodness)
  2. You enjoy stalking your target (the joys of a methodical kill)
  3. Murder is a hobby (???)
Why would I pass on this class?

  1. Identity crisis (again)
  2. You are very squishy (one of THE squishiest)
  3. Near mandatory beginning spec (Lotus is nice though)

General Assissin Info: The assassin is your typical rogue class. Now, opinions vary greatly. According to some, you are unable to kill players 10 levels below you. Other say Crom himself has an account and he plays an assassin. Assassins are stealthy and deadly. Its real problem is that all the rogue classes are stealthy and deadly. The Ranger can engage from range, the barbarian can engage multiple mobs.

Assassin in PvE: Have a tough time. Mob in this game pop up in groups, and this is not a class designed for groups. You just have to pick your battles. Most PvE centered (and most everyone from 1-40ish) go into Lotus for its survivability. After that you can switch into another build to suit your tastes. In groups your usefulness goes up a great deal as you no longer have to worry as much about survivability.

Assassin in PvP:
For the problems they have in PvE, I'll bet you were hoping me to say they melt face in PvP. They are dangerous, no doubt, but not really more
dangerous than the other rogue classes, and that is where the problem lies at the moment. Corruption after 40ish is the spec of choice for PvP damage.

Age of Conan Noble District gank areas

There are two major areas that any long range class from rangers, ToS, PoM, Necros, and Demos can easily exploit!

The first and major spot that i find to help raise my KDR is by the second camp -before you enter the main city area - there is a large wall where you get on top of and stop everyone that has to go by in order to get to the main questing area.

In order to do this you climb on the junk by the wooden fence by the camp and face the small wall which when you press sprint and jump at the right moment you can get on top of! and there you are the first spot to help your KDR.

The second spot a little more obvious is past the first set of guards in the noble district, and you go down the bridge and there is a place to climb up on top of there is a great place to stealth and gank who ever come to kill the NPCs there which is really often. there you are two places to help get your KDR up

AoC Trick: Nice PvP spot

If you are a ranger with a +5 range bow on whitesands, there is a nice spot which you can get to which will prevent most players from reaching you in time to attack you.

When you first enter whitesands turn right and swim out to the little island of stone. After that, swim over the the cliff which should be in front of you. Go to the corner where the two cliffs meet and sprint-jump on top of it. this may take a few tries but eventually you will get on the side of the rock. Climb up and get on top of the tallest rock. you now have a nice view of the entrance to whitesands and you can reach pretty far with your +5 bow, you can also shoot players who are swimming over to try to get you.

Age of Conan Cheats: More on water running, attacking, steathing, casting

There are two methods of doing this. One is foolproof, but requires an NPC by water you can swim in, and the other method you can do anywhere, but is a little trickier (until you get the hang of it)

Side note: to other players, you are seen not running in water, but swimming in water. Except, really really fast and abnormally quick.

Foolproof method:
  • Be swimming in water near an NPC

  • Target the NPC and be somewhat close enough to where you'd be able to use your action key (not double click!) to speak to the NPC.

  • Jump in the water, and as your UI enables itself (i.e., you are in the air), press your action key (default 'u'). You will go into dialogue with the NPC.

  • Say goodbye.

  • Enjoy walking on water until you walk back on land or you try to jump (both disable the ability).

More convenient, trickier method:
1-Be on land, but in the water deep enough so that if you attacked (which moves you forward), you'd start 'swimming.'
2-Go into your inventory and make sure you have NO WEAPONS EQUIPPED. Not even an offhand. Be empty handed, so when you attack, you punch (crucial, and I'll explain why later).
3-w, preferably with hotkeys, press attack (any direction), and then almost instantaneously (but not quite) hold your hotkey for "Hide." Your character will jab quickly with his/her fists as he/she moves forward past the point where he/she'd normally be swimming. Note: even though you hit the "Hide" key, you shouldn't go into stealth even when this trick works. To know if it worked, your skillbar won't disable like it normally would when swimming in water. If you suddenly see your skill bar go grey, backstep and try it again until it doesn't. Then try running into the water. You'll be able to walk on it now, until you actually walk on land (and then the game realizes it's made a mistake

The reason why you have to be unequipped, I've come to reason, is that the game just doesn't think as much when you are. The attack is faster, it's not 'unsheathing' anything in the game code. Just, for some reason, that extra split moment where it pulls out a weapon and swings it slower than a fist jab, just stops the exploit from working.

Age of Conan Exploit: Underwater Stealth

Have your weapon sheathed when doing this. Go close to an NPC that will open a dialogue cutscene for you and /sit.

Just as you start to sit talk to the npc to start the dialogue. After your character sits during the NPC dialogue, he will then stand up. After that, close the dialogue.

If you have done it right, when you try to move you will be pulled back. If you did it right, then stealth and you will be able to move. You can now walk on water.

If you swim down in the water you will be walking underneath it. To remove the effect, just go back onto land and fight something. Do not try to cancel the effect while still in the water, otherwise you will have to relog to fix it.

EPIC Age of Conan Siege Videos

Sieges in Age of Conan, although still with some small issues, hold in my opinon some of the most fun to be had out there.

There are two recent videos here that show just how much better they are say to back last summer time.

They are much smoother now and many fixes have quitely been applied over the past few months leading up a forthcoming stronger focus from Funcom. After the server merges everyone had to "reclaim" land causing plenty of guild friction servers wide. It is great and should of been like this at launch. Can't wait to see whats coming soon, but appreciative of how things have turned around.

Anyway, hope you enjoy:

Personally I like number 1 for the burning buildings and number 2 overall.

With recent admission to greatly putting a focus on Guilds times are exciting!

Here are some specific patch notes since September detailing some of the fixes for persual if interested:

MASSIVE PVP
Massive PVP
  • Ballistas will now properly despawn after a tower is destroyed.
  • Several collision fixes done for Battlekeep buildings.
  • The gate will now display a message when the damaged state is preventing you from opening it.
  • City gates are now functional until the gate is heavily damaged.
  • The city gate will no longer receive an extra lever after repairing it.
  • It's no longer impossible to repair a destroyed city gate.
  • Player City Guards will now detect hidden enemy players.
  • You should no longer get teleported out of the playfield when you leave your group in the Border Kingdoms.
  • Battle Keep guards should no longer get confused about who to attack during a siege.
  • Guards will now hit for a more normal amount.
  • Guards will now take longer breaks during patrols.
  • The new Channel "Siege Scores" will display point gain in siege combat.
  • Siege weapons are now immune from fatalities.
  • Attacking siege buildings with melee/ranged or unarmed will show correct damage on the client.
  • Changed the Ballista to use the correct spell.
  • Changed the Ballista Hit spell to not hit players.
  • Players are now dismounted when they are knocked out of city buildings.
  • Fixed a hole in floor in the tier 2 tradepost.
  • It's now possible to use the gate lever while mounted.
  • Players can now only control one siege weapon at a time.
  • Fixed the tooltip layout that alerts you to the upgrade timer. Added 'Upgrade available in:' to the timer, to clarify things. Changed timer format so it's not 'jumping' anymore when counting down.
  • You will no longer spend your building materials when building construction fails.
  • The owners of a battlekeep should now learn the resurrection point of their keep after repairing the keep.
  • Non-guilded player's pets will no longer attack their owners in Siege PvP.
  • When a siege battle starts, the defending guild will now properly discover their battlekeep resurrection point.
  • Added the "Local Time" Timer to the window.
  • You can now close the city gates by using the city gate lever again. This allows you to close the gate faster to prevent someone else from entering the city.
  • Attacking siege buildings with melee/ranged or unarmed will show correct damage.
  • Sorting the score window should now sort correctly.
  • Building points gained by mercenaries will be rewarded to the attacking guild as intended.
  • Defending guild mercenaries can no longer gain points by killing attacking players.
  • Siege weapons are now immune to fatalities.
  • All Battle Keeps now have a minimum of 2 siege camps around the outer walls.
  • Trebuchets should now properly display their nameplate and targeting arrow (if enabled).
  • Battlekeeps will no longer have NPC guards.
  • Buildings can not be repaired during a siege PvP battle anymore.
  • The vulnerability window will be moved a few hours into the future now in case the playfield gets unavailable during an already running siege battle.
  • The order of the Player City buildings has been adjusted. This should make it easier for players to get the trade skill buildings while the overall difficulty of getting a full tier 3 city should remain the same. We have also introduced an element of player choice, where players can choose which of the tradeskill buildings to build first.
  • The system to sign up to siege a battlekeep has been enhanced. The guilds that want to participate in a siege will now declare war on each other to win the right to lay siege. During this war, the attacking guilds gain points for killing members of other guilds that have signed up, and lose points if they are killed by the defending guild. As in the old system, the guild that earns the right to attack will have their points reset, but the points of non-qualifying guilds will roll over to the next war.
  • After a siege has finished, the server will no longer schedule a battle during a time that already has a battle scheduled.
  • Siege participants will no longer incorrectly get teleported out.
  • The Massive PvP time window can now be opened without being in a guild and can be opened from any playfield.
  • The ballista won’t play an explosion particle on each player near the impact anymore. The impact visual effect has been changed to be more appropriate for a ballista impact. This should also improve performance during sieges.
  • Two Wayfarers of Asura have decided to observe the conflict in the Cimmerian end of the Border Kingdoms.
  • If a guild loses a siege they will no longer be able to immediately rebuild the keep.
  • The winner of a siege battle should now be reported correctly.
  • The PvP area marker will now appear on the map correctly. The minimap will show the name of the guild that owns a Battlekeep, and when the next window of vulnerability is.
  • If a player leaves a group during a siege they now have 60 seconds to find a new group. This should make it easier for players to organize players between the two different raids.
  • You can no longer interact with NPCs of a battlekeep after you lose it to another guild.
  • Border Kingdoms, Cimmerian End now has some additional resurrection points.
  • It is no longer possible to heal siege weapons.
  • The siege timer should now display correctly.
  • Players who enter a siege after the battle has begun should now see the score update.
  • The locations of the attacker resurrection points have been slightly adjusted. Keep in mind that they are still not right next to the actual siege camps.
  • The siege weapons graphics have been improved.
  • You will no longer lose the resurrection point of your keep when attacking another battlekeep in the same playfield.
  • Tweaked an area near the stairs in battlekeep Burnheim to allow players to walk over it instead of jump.
  • If a battlekeep becomes vulnerable but no attackers signed up to attack it, it should no longer be vulnerable for the siege duration. Instead, the vulnerability window will automatically be re-scheduled as if the defense had completed successfully.
  • The siege score window should correctly reappear after each teleport/death, but will not remain onscreen if you leave the playfield.
  • Lacheish Plains: City owners should now properly receive their city resurrection points.
  • Sturmgarde battlekeep now has improved wall defenses.
  • The tooltip on the vulnerability window should now only show owner guild and time the next battle will be.

Age of Conan Cheats - Increase Miss Attacks When In Close Combat

Wait until you have been attacked by the player and that player has used something along the lines of root or stunned on you.

- When you are rooted, stunned, or something else keeping you in a fixed location type /stuck.

- If done right it should move you away a few steps from the player attacking you.

- If not done right try again until it actually starts working for you. Sometimes you need to do it at least 3 times before the teleporting actually starts to kick in.

- This can be very helpful if you do it over and over again as it makes it very hard for a player to actually be able to hit you when you are teleporting all around the map.

6. Kill everyone on the pad until your only recieve 1 pvp xp( about 5 kills per person)

AOC Cheats - Logout while hidden and remain hidden

This is not exactly an exploit but if you sometime will need to log out fast and while hidden - to avoid detection: just kill AoC in task manager or Disable your Internet connection.

Normal logout process breaks hiding thus exposing you - and getting you killed on PvP server (loosing PvP exp - after PvP patch). You can use zoning to get away from foes - but sometimes it will just take too long to do that.

Also when you will log in - you will be hidden - but that isnt important.

Age of Conan Hints and Tips

Entering the world of Hyboria can sometimes be confusing and many players could use a few tips to get them started. To aid in the learning curve Funcom added some useful tips on the loading screen for players to read as they load into the game. However, there are many of these tips and you can never be sure if you will get the same one or a new one, so Ten Ton Hammer has put together a nice collection of these tips to aid you in your journey through Hyboria.

  • Press "I" to view your inventory

  • Loading tips can contain useful information on gameplay.

  • Hit Backspace to toggle between run and walk

  • "Shift R" toggles between weapon sets.

  • Holding "CTRL" displays your shields and using the "Direction Arrows" shifts their distribution.

  • Combos do more damage than normal attacks.

  • Press "U" to activate usable items in the world.

  • "ALT + Z" toggles the GUI on and off.

  • Press "F11" to take a screenshot

  • Remember to train your feats after gaining a new level.

  • Double-click a Quest Goal on your map to make it your active quest.

  • Hold alt to swap to alternate hotbar.

  • When clicking Tabs for Inventory, Character, etc., hold "CTRL" to only open the left side or "ALT" for the right side.

  • Drag and drop items into the chat to create a link for others to see.

  • Toggle between walk mode and jog mode by pressing backspace.

  • "Shift-Click" bags to loot all items.

  • Double tap a movement direction while in combat to make your character dodge in that direction.

  • "Shift L" to lock in your shortcut bar so you don't drag them off when you least want to.

  • Holding down your right mouse button and pressing the left one will make your character move forward.

  • You can switch playfield instances by clicking the gold down-arrow above your minimap. Check if you and your friends are in the same instance.

  • Pressing "ESC" will bring up the options window.

These tips and hints can prove useful during your time in Hyboria. Mark them and use them well as they can save you time and in some cases your avatar's life.

Age of Conan Bot - Combo Executer

How does the Combo Executer mod work?
The mod works by monitoring the state of your in-game icons. When it detects that a directional attack button is highlighted (remember, the game highlights the next button in the attack sequence) it virtually presses the key that corresponds to the highlighted button.

Quick Start

* 1. Start Age of Conan in Window Mode
* 2. Start the Combo Mod
* • Repeat the following steps for all buttons you want to process
* 3. Click the button you want to map on the mod
* 4. Right-Click the button you want to map to in AOC
* 5. Select the key the button is mapped to in AOC
* 6. Select the key you want to smash to continue your combo chain

Guide to Age of Conan Combos

recently i ran into a new player in AOC who had left the island of tortage with out properly learning the combo system of combat. This person was about to leave the game because it was so hard to level or even kill mobs. Most gamers theses days think they know automatically how to play. but years in SWG or WOW will not prepare you for the combat system in AOC. it is vastly different. most load the game with out even looking at the book, then go WTF!, when things don't happen just like the in guild wars, and thus the game is ether lame, broken, or just to friggin hard to grasp.

i for one did the digy early download, and had no book. but i had done research beforehand and had an idea of what to expect.
there are vid's from funcom where they try and tell you what the deal is, but most don't watch those vid's and just go straight for the topless vids and uber beheading fatality movies. besides, anything from the dev's will suck right? so why bother to even look at them?

I am a player, and not connected to funcom in any way shape or form. i really have nothing to gain from doing this, but i just hate to see player get frustrated and quit early because they did not know what to do, be it from getting the game from a friends buddy pass code, or just not even bothering to read the manual. i just want to help put a smile on your face when your bear shaman rips off his enemy's head with his bare hands.

ahh, the good things in life...
